Movement, body language, tonality, and the creation of an artistic persona through performance; all these aspects contribute to the identity of an artist. But, what if design could help inspire and elevate the quality of emerging artists, or those in the process of rebranding themselves? How wonderful would that be? This is the idea behind the GMM Renovation project, which encompasses the design of a central space that caters to artists, producers, songwriters, managers, and executives of the music industry. This includes a dance rehearsal room, a singing rehearsal and vocal training room, a large music rehearsal room, and a recording studio that meets industry standards.

Our goal is to create a space that is intimately connected with movement; one that captures the various movements artists use to express themselves. By exploring different materials, such as reflective surfaces or translucent materials, we hope to create new forms of movement that can be incorporated into the interior design. We created a mind map that explores different materials, such as reflective surfaces, see-through materials, translucent materials, and ceilings, to develop an understanding of how they can be used to create new and interesting effects. We realized that glass, steel, and reflective surfaces could be used to enhance the space and create a unique atmosphere.

Apart from the design, the functionality of the common areas is equally important. They need to be practical and able to support work and relaxation. This is why we included glass blocks to provide privacy while still allowing natural light into the space. Additionally, we incorporated sound-absorbing panels to minimize noise and create a peaceful environment for work and rest. The common areas must facilitate a sense of community and collaboration. This is why we included a lounge area, which encourages people to interact and share ideas.

The GMM Renovation project is not only a space for artists, but also a space for people to come together and share their passion for music. We hope that this space will inspire emerging artists and help established artists further develop their craft.
