The concept of "SURFACE" has been reinterpreted through a lens of nostalgia, reflecting various encounters and experiences in life. At its core, the idea of surface design aims to transform existing furniture pieces found in every home into something new, breathing fresh life into them once again. Take, for instance, the upholstery of vintage taxi seats - adorned with handwoven wooden covers, not only extending the lifespan of the driver's seat but also providing comfort, akin to a back massage. Some may even consider it a form of beauty. Inspired by these taxi seat covers, we contemplate the utilization of sturdy materials that can be woven and bent, withstanding tension. Recalling leftover wood scraps from Excellentform's factory, we envisioned repurposing these materials through design and production into entirely new creations.

Through experimentation, we've discovered the potential to evolve our designs from reimagined surfaces covering old objects into entirely new furniture pieces, or even installations transcending the conventional notion of furniture. Our showcase presents tangible pieces crafted from recycled steel frames and woven wood scraps, transformed into versatile surfaces. These surfaces are then adapted into familiar forms such as stools, side tables, or beach chairs. The woven wood possesses properties allowing it to be both rigid and flexible, depending on how it's utilized, further extending the boundaries of creativity and resourcefulness simultaneously.
